This documentary marks a pivotal moment in the life of a small West African country; Sierra Leone, and also in my own life. In 2002, as the decade long civil war (famous for its diamonds and victims of amputation) slowly came to an end, I visited and documented the aftermath of war in interviews with people at all levels of society. This film demonstrates the willingness of a small country and its gallant people to recognise the divisive issues of the past and to begin the long path of reconciliation and renewal. I teamed up with long time indigenous friend, Andrew Lavali of Freetown, to ask the questions that needed answers. Listen to the voices of Sierra Leone and feel the anxieties and optimism present in those first days of peace. I intend to return shortly and produce a second, follow-up film about the progress thus far in this amazing journey of hope. Produced & directed by Gary B. Smith and Andrew Lavali.
