The sixth Annual International Children’s Festival will take place on Sunday, May 22nd, 2015, at Henry Ford II High School in Sterling Heights, MI. The event is organized by Turkish American Society of Michigan (TASM) and Balkan American Community Center with support from Niagara Foundation. The goals of this event include fostering communal exchange, promoting cultural understanding among Michiganders, particularly children with diverse backgrounds, and promoting peace.
40 different countries and cultures will be represented at the event, which is expected to attract around 1000 people. This year's participating countries and cultures include Albania, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Bulgaria, China, Colombia, Gambia, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya Macedonia, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, Romania, Russia, Senegal, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Syria, Tanzania, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, USA, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen.
The celebrations and activities of the Festival will present opportunities to children to interact with and learn about other cultures through traditional dances and songs on stage and country exhibits that will feature Chinese calligraphy, Turkish sand painting, Romanian crafts, Korean games, and much more. The children will also enjoy face-painting stalls, inflated playground, tightrope walking plus a host of other fun activities. The event will also include a very rich food and bake sale.
