DETROIT - A 24-year-old Detroit man, convicted of murder in the death of an Uber driver

Dajuan Watson was sentenced to 37 1/2 to 75 years for armed robbery, two years for a felony firearms violation and solitary confinement after the first five years.

Watson refused to come out of his cell for sentencing.

Watson was convicted of shooting and killing Modou Diagne, 51, when they got into an argument on March 19, 2016.

Diagne was found inside an SUV in the 5500 block of Pacific Avenue on Detroit's west side. He suffered at least two gunshot wounds, police said.

Prosecutors said Watson had requested the Uber driver pick him up and then shot him during an altercation. Diagne died at a hospital.

Uber drivers carry no cash, but his phone was stolen.

Diagne came from his native Senegal to Detroit and had been driving for Uber for the past three years to support his wife and children.

"He was working all the time, no days off. Sometimes, 19 hours a day," said niece Fatima Diop.
